How do you slow down the firing?
The answer depends on the type of kiln.
Infinite control switch: To slow down the firing rate, turn the switches to a lower setting for a longer period. For instance, instead of firing on Low for the first hour, fire on Low for the first 1 1/2 hours. The longer the kiln is fired at a low switch setting, the slower it will fire. After firing the kiln on the Low switch position, turn the switch to a higher setting.
Digital controller: A digital controller needs to know the firing temperature and the firing rate. For most controllers, the firing rate is figured as degrees of temperature rise per hour. If you want the kiln to fire to 1000 degrees in three hours, the rate would be 1000 divided by 3 = 333 degrees per hour.
