Is it safe to introduce a combustible material into a hot kiln

Updated on Jan 24, 2025

Paragon has always warned against inserting combustible materials into the kiln. It can be dangerous, especially with toxic materials such as moth balls. Reduction firing is also hard on the heating elements. The reduced atmosphere eats away at the oxide coating on the element wire. I am considering buying my first electric kiln. The choices and information seem overwhelming.
