Is it true that even though a kiln is rated for cone 10, it is best not to fire at that temperature?

Updated on Jan 24, 2025

A cone 10 kiln has extra insulation and heavy-duty elements. It has enough power to reach cone 10 many times. (A Paragon front-loading Dragon is an example of a cone 10 kiln.) However, the heavy-duty elements will last longer at temperatures below cone 10.
