A plate cracked in the kiln

You can tell when the crack occurred by examining the edges of the crack. This applies to cracks in clay and glass. Rounded edges indicate that the plate cracked while the kiln was going up in temperature. Sharp edges indicate that the plate cracked while the kiln was cooling.
