The PARAGON VULCAN II is a high-capacity crucible kiln designed to deliver precision, durability, and ease of use for professional glass artists and production studios. With its ability to melt approximately 50 pounds of glass, this kiln opens the door to large-scale glass blowing, custom color mixing, casting, and neon tubing. From the reinforced walls to the pivoting crucible lid system, every detail has been designed with the glassblower in mind.

Why choose the PARAGON VULCAN II?

At the heart of the Vulcan II is a robust 13.5" diameter firing chamber lined with thick, high-temperature K-25 firebricks. The sidewalls are 4.5" thick for maximum thermal retention during long melts, while the lid, floor, and crucible cover are made from 3" thick K-25 brick. Behind the firebrick chamber is a ceramic fiber blanket for additional insulation and energy efficiency.

The lid features a 12” crucible access hole, covered by a heavy firebrick plug mounted on pivoting support arms. This lid vent pivots up and out of the way with one-handed operation—no need to handle a hot, heavy plug or find a place to set it down. You can also use kiln furniture (sold separately) to raise your crucibles as needed.

The kiln is constructed with Kanthal APM heating elements, which offer longer life and stability under high-temperature cycling. The elements are protected from dripping glass thanks to a quick-release bottom section. This lower portion includes the firebrick floor and a blank 2.5" high row of wall bricks (no heating elements), providing sacrificial protection. If a crucible fails, simply replace the lower section.

Precision with SENTINEL

The VULCAN II is equipped with the SENTINEL  digital controller, mounted in a ventilated control box with long heat-resistant cables. This advanced touchscreen controller offers:

Built-in durability and protection

A deluxe S-Type platinum thermocouple is included as standard, offering superior accuracy and longevity over standard thermocouples. Power is regulated via an industrial-grade mercury relay, known for its quiet, reliable performance and millions of on/off cycles—ideal for kilns running extended high-temp firings.

The kiln is supported by a tubular steel stand with locking casters for easy movement. Heavy-duty twist locks secure the kiln in place. The galvanized steel base folds up under the stainless case on all sides, reinforcing the entire firing chamber.
