PARAGON Dragon 27 : The Super Dragon for Serious Ceramic Production

Built for the Demands of High-Fire, High-Volume Studios

The PARAGON Dragon 24 Pro, known as the Super Dragon, is Paragon’s most powerful front-loading kiln, engineered for artists, educators, and production studios that demand uncompromising performance, durability, and ease of access. With its massive 15.18 cubic foot interior, heavy-duty construction, and 21,600 watts of firing power, the Super Dragon easily reaches cone 10 (2350°F) while delivering the long-term reliability Paragon is known for.

Designed for professionals who fire frequently and at full capacity, the Super Dragon offers exceptional thermal control, even heat distribution, and a front-loading configuration that simplifies the firing of tall work, stacked ware, and delicate pieces—without the strain or risk of top-loading.

Serious Power for Serious Work

At the heart of the Super Dragon is its 21,600-watt industrial-grade element system, seated in dropped, recessed grooves for protection and stability. The kiln’s generous 27" W x 27" D x 36" H chamber is one of the largest in its class, offering unmatched flexibility for firing:

  • Tall sculptures

  • Multiple large platters or bowls

  • Large-volume bisque and glaze loads

  • Crystalline and specialty glazes requiring extended slow cooling

With plenty of power to spare, the elements operate with less strain during high-fire cycles, extending their service life and ensuring more consistent results over time.

Heavy-Duty Insulation for Thermal Efficiency

The Super Dragon is wrapped in 4 inches of insulation on all sides—3” thick firebrick backed by 1” of ceramic fiber block—making it remarkably efficient at heat retention. The 4 ½” firebrick floor adds extra thermal mass for long, steady holds and gradual cooling.

This extra insulation enables a feature many potters prize: natural down-firing. After peak temperature is reached, the kiln cools slowly without needing to reheat, allowing for:

  • Richer glaze development

  • Fuller microcrystalline structure in specialty glazes

  • Iron red and gas-like effects in oxidation firings

Case temperatures stay impressively low—around 170°F at cone 10, compared to 400–500°F on traditional kilns—adding safety and studio comfort.

Designed for Front-Loading Convenience

Whether you’re working with delicate figurines or heavy production batches, the front-loading design makes all the difference. The door opens wide for full access to the chamber and is supported by a heavy-duty ¾” steel rod and sealed bearings for smooth motion and durability. Spring-loaded latches press the door shut for a tight, consistent seal.

From easy shelf stacking to stress-free sculpture placement, the Super Dragon allows you to load and fire with visibility, control, and safety.

Built for Production Environments

The Super Dragon was designed with daily, high-frequency use in mind. Firing every day? No problem. The kiln’s Paragon warranty remains valid regardless of how often you fire, even in a commercial or institutional setting.

A built-in stand is included with every unit, providing sturdy, permanent support for the kiln’s 900+ lb frame. The kiln will fit through a 42" doorway when handles and the back element cover are temporarily removed.

Intelligent Digital Control

The Super Dragon includes the Sentinel Smart Touch controller as standard. This touchscreen interface makes it easy to set and repeat complex firing schedules with precision. Features include:

  • Intuitive, icon-based navigation

  • 30+ user-programmable slots

  • Up to 32 segments per schedule

  • Mid-fire editing (add/skip segments, adjust hold/temp)

  • Alarm and diagnostics system

  • Wi-Fi enabled for remote updates and monitoring

Advanced Thermal Sensing

The Super Dragon includes a ¼” wide, Type K exposed-tip thermocouple made with special limit wire for maximum accuracy and responsiveness. The exposed tip ensures the controller reacts quickly to chamber temperature changes—ideal for complex glaze cycles and long hold profiles.
