PARAGON KM9: Compact Powerhouse for Bladesmith Precision

Small in size, big on performance — the PARAGON KM9 is the most compact kiln in the KM Base lineup, purpose-built for bladesmiths and metalworkers who need reliable heat treatment in tight spaces. Whether you're crafting compact knives, fine tools, or testing steel formulas, the KM9 brings high-performance heat treating to your workbench.

Why Have a Heat Treating Furnace in Your Shop?

With your own furnace, heat treating becomes a process you control—not outsource or guess. It lets you push steels to their limits, experiment with advanced techniques like triple quenching or differential hardening, and test your blades against the most brutal challenges. Rockwell hardness? Yes. But also slicing rope, chopping 2x4s, or even bending a blade 90° without failure. When you own a kiln, you don’t have to take anyone’s word for what works. You find out for yourself.

Why Choose the PARAGON KM9?

The KM9 brings together everything that makes the KM Series a benchmark in knifemaking kilns—just in a smaller footprint.

  • Interior chamber: 5.5" W x 4.3" H x 9" D (0.12 cubic feet)

  • SENTINEL Touch Xpress controller: Fully customizable ramp/hold programming with an intuitive touchscreen interface.

  • Solid-state relay: Silent operation, precise control, longer life. Includes heat sink and backup safety relay.

  • Durable steel case: Built for the rigors of real workshops, with a built-in stand to lift the kiln off your workbench.

  • 3” firebrick insulation: For excellent heat retention and energy efficiency.

  • Recessed heating elements: Installed in precision-machined grooves for protection and easy maintenance.

Who is This Furnace For?

The KM9 is ideal for:

  • Knife makers producing smaller blades or tools

  • Beginners working on precision heat treatment techniques

  • Makers with limited shop space

  • Schools or R&D teams doing material testing

Its short chamber is perfect for efficient, quick cycles when long blades aren’t part of your workflow.

Choose Your Door Style

The KM9 is available in two configurations:

  • Swing Door – Opens sideways for easy access with minimal clearance.

  • Drop Door – Opens downward, offering greater loading flexibility and a built-in work surface when open.

Optional Upgrades

  • Gas Injection Flow Meter: Reduce surface scaling by introducing inert gas (like argon) during heat treating. Available as an add-on kit or factory-installed.

  • Add a solenoid valve for automated, safer gas injection—only flows when needed, saving gas and protecting your workspace.

  • Knifemaking Kit: Securely holds blades upright and evenly spaced for consistent heat distribution.
