PARAGON Dragon 24: Power, Precision, and Easy Front-Loading Access

The PARAGON Dragon 24 is not just a kiln—it’s a professional-grade, front-loading ceramic furnace, purpose-built for potters, sculptors, and ceramic artists who need industrial performance, intuitive loading, and flawless temperature control. With its high-power output, extra insulation, and generous interior space, the Dragon delivers high-fire results with remarkable efficiency—firing to cone 10 (2350°F) with room to spare.

Unlike top-loading kilns, the Dragon gives you clear sightlines, open access, and the ability to safely load large or delicate pieces. Whether you’re building tall sculptures, running production batches, or creating crystalline-glazed masterpieces, the Dragon gives you the space, stability, and visibility you need—without the risk or strain of vertical loading.

Exceptional Power with Tuned Element Design

At the heart of the Dragon is its 16,500-watt power system, which heats the 24" wide x 24" deep x 27" high interior quickly and evenly. That power is distributed through industrial-gauge heating elements protected in dropped, recessed wall grooves for long-lasting performance.

The elements are “tuned”—meaning they’re specifically calibrated with hotter coils at the top and bottom of the chamber to correct for natural temperature imbalances. This tuning helps maintain uniform heat throughout the kiln, even on complex or tall loads.

Optional door elements can further improve temperature consistency, particularly when firing heavy work or full-volume loads. Best of all, this upgrade does not increase the kiln’s overall amperage.

Energy Efficiency That Pays Off

The Dragon is built with 4” of insulation throughout the walls, door, and lid, made from 3” of firebrick backed by 1” of ceramic fiber block. The floor is even thicker at 4½”, ensuring minimal heat loss and extended element life.

This high-efficiency build offers multiple benefits:

  • Lower case temperatures (170°F at cone 10 vs. 400–500°F in standard kilns)

  • Reduced electricity use for long high-fire cycles

  • Excellent down-firing performance for crystalline glazes and iron-rich finishes

The result: dramatic glaze effects, long cooling cycles without power, and cost savings over the life of the kiln.

Thoughtful, User-Friendly Design

The front-loading door swings open a full 160 degrees on a robust ¾” steel rod with sealed bearings. Spring-loaded latches apply even pressure for a tight thermal seal, and the recessed inner door face minimizes heat leakage.

The kiln’s hinged switch box is generously vented to keep electrical components cool and opens fully for fast, tool-free maintenance. A folding support arm holds the panel open, providing ample workspace around relays, wires, and terminals. Inside, you’ll find UL and NEC-compliant fuses and long-life mercury relays (or optional solid state relays) powering the heating elements with stability and precision.

Despite its heavy-duty build, the Dragon can fit through a 34” doorway—just remove the handles and rear element cover temporarily.

Standard Features:

  • Sentinel Touch Xpress (or optional Genesis touchscreen) controller

  • Cone 10, 2350°F max temperature

  • 9 cubic foot capacity (24" W x 24" D x 27" H)

  • 3” firebrick + 1” ceramic fiber block in walls, top, and door

  • 4 ½” firebrick floor for added thermal mass

  • Long-life mercury relays (solid state optional)

  • Hinged, vented switch box with folding support arm

  • Proportional power elements for precise heat distribution

  • Recessed door for better thermal seal

  • Two 1” peepholes on left side

  • Type K thermocouple (Type S optional)

  • 1" clearance between kiln and switch box to keep components cool

  • Available in 200, 208, 220, 240, or 480 volts (single or 3-phase)

  • UL/NEC-compliant fusing for safety

  • Made in the USA

The Perfect Kiln For:

  • Ceramic studios needing high-volume, high-temperature performance

  • Potters firing porcelain, stoneware, or crystalline glazes

  • Sculptors working with tall or fragile workpieces

  • Educators or production artists who need full visibility and safe, ergonomic loading

  • Studios ready to move up from top-loaders to professional front-load access

Optional Upgrades to Customize Your Dragon

Heavy-Duty Stand (Optional): For residential or school environments, we strongly recommend the optional stand with locking casters. It supports the kiln’s 900+ lbs with ease and makes movement far more manageable through narrow doorways or uneven floors. Due to weight, casters are very difficult to install after delivery.

Furniture Kit (Optional): Includes shelves and posts designed specifically for the Dragon’s 9 cubic foot interior. Stack ware efficiently and take full advantage of vertical space:

  • 1 – Full shelf (22" x 22")

  • 4 – Half shelves (22" x 11")

  • 8 posts each of 4", 6", and 8" heights

  • 1 lb kiln wash

Orton Vent Master Kiln Vent (Optional): Factory-installed on the kiln’s rear, this system improves glaze clarity and color saturation by pulling in fresh oxygen and removing fumes. It's especially helpful for firing red and orange glazes, metallics, and lusters in shared spaces. The Vent Master also reduces carbon buildup and helps eliminate common glaze flaws like pinholes and bloating.
